Resolution on Separation
Resolution 09-04

From its founding in 1941, the American Council of Christian Churches has devoted its resources and energy to following the exhortation of Jude to “earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” (Jude 3)

Not long after the ACCC came into existence, the forces of compromise with error in the evangelical world began trying to forge a middle way between fundamentalism and modernism. This “New Evangelicalism,” as it came to be called, launched an assault on the doctrine of Biblical separation.

That doctrine rests on the clear teaching of the Word of God that warns, “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” (II Corinthians 6:14-18)

The apparent success of the “New Evangelicalism” has encouraged even greater departures from the Scriptures of Truth. It has also fostered the pretense that it is possible and even desirable for believers in Christ to have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, when the Scriptures absolutely forbid such fellowship. (Ephesians 5:11)

In such a time, the Word of God calls Christ’s people to strengthen their resolve to be faithful to the Gospel and to take their stand against that which dilutes or denies it and to practice such separation in their individual lives, as the Scriptures command, “as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation.” (I Peter 1:15)

Therefore, the delegates to the 68th annual convention of the American Council of Christian Churches, meeting October 20-22, 2009 in Toronto Free Presbyterian Church, Toronto, Ontario, Canada express their firm resolve to maintain the practice of Biblical separation, both personally and ecclesiastically, and that they will remain faithful to the Biblical demand to separate from those who teach “another Gospel,” from all who deny the doctrines of Scripture, from all who pervert the Scripture to unbiblical uses and teachings, and from all those who refuse to separate themselves from those who are disobedient to God’s command.

The World Council of Churches (WCC), organized in Amsterdam in 1948, continues to be a major representative of the liberal wing of Protestantism with its claim to represent 560 million individuals in 349 denominations, located in more than 110 countries. This religious body attempts to bring within its fold not only Protestants, Orthodox, Anglicans and Roman Catholics, but rejoices as compromising evangelicals, Pentecostals and charismatics find their way into the organization as well, along with representatives of other world religions.

The powerful Central Committee that handles all WCC business between Assemblies elected a new General Secretary at its meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, August 26- September 2, 2009, choosing not to wait until the next Assembly in South Korea in 2013. The man chosen by a majority vote of 80 to 60 was the Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit of the Church of Norway. This ecumenical leader, when questioned about other world religions, quickly announced he was presently serving as Moderator of the Church of Norway-Islamic Council, and he declared, “We must see one another as fellow human beings. All faiths call us to that.”

The new General Secretary went on to say that the WCC’s strong ties with the Roman Catholic Church provide “one of the most crucial relationships for the WCC.” He even looked forward to his first meeting with Pope Benedict XVI as soon as that could be arranged.

It was also newly revealed in Geneva that the WCC had received into membership in 1970 the “Church of Jesus Christ on Earth by His Special Envoy Simon Kimbanger,” claiming their church to be the “New Jerusalem.” This church declares Simon to be “The One,” rather than the Holy Spirit, sent from Heaven by the Father as recorded in John 14:26.

Among the participants at this Geneva meeting were the United Bible Societies, World Alliance of YMCA’s, General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Roman Catholics and World Vision.

The American Council of Christian Churches (ACCC) meeting in its 68th Annual Convention, October 20-22, 2009 in Toronto, Canada, declares these liberal church bodies and leaders to be “…grievous wolves…not sparing the flock,” (Acts 20:29) as well as a “…cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” (Revelation 18:2) We call upon all true believers to understand that God’s Word clearly teaches separation from apostates as represented by the WCC, and also from those who remain within the World Evangelical Alliance or any other church bodies that cooperate and participate with the WCC along with the 70 regional groups of the WCC.
