Interesting Bible stats

Forum category

If you are an avid reader of the Bible, you may find some interesting and even useful information in this article: https://apeopleforhisname.org/2012/03/some-interesting-stats-for-bible-…

The statistics in this article are from an analysis of the KJV. Although I have not done a similar analysis of any other versions, it is very likely that the stats would be mostly the same for other versions as well.

Luke is surprising. It doesn’t “feel” that long. I mentioned in another thread that I have been trying to read/listen to a book a day this year. The major prophets always seem to take the longest but could just be my perception.

It’s not just your perception. When you look at the actual number of words in the Major Prophets vs. Luke, the Major Prophets are much larger:
Isaiah - 37036
Jeremiah - 42654
Ezekiel - 39401
Luke -25939
Because each of these books has at least twice as many chapters as Luke does, their averages for words/chapter and verses/chapter end up being much smaller than for Luke.
That’s great that you are reading/listening to so much of the Bible every day!
