adoption meeting

Forum category
I have a hard time asking prayer for this, actually, because adoption is such an iffy thing until it happens, but …

(This is all happening in Ukraine where we live.) Vitaliy and I talked about adopting or being foster parents before we were married, and over a year ago, a friend told us about a little boy, Paul, who has some physical defects. He’s legally abandoned and so is adoptable.

A lot of preliminary things have been slowly happening over the last year and a half to actually make it feasible for us to become adoptive parents. I’ve even put in all my immigration papers here, and that should allow me to be his adoptive mother as a Ukrainian (so it’s not an international adoption, which is more complicated).

Anyway, we have our first meeting tomorrow with the City Children’s Center psychologist. We have to be cleared thru this office first on many levels, and then we can apply as adoptive parents to our regional government office.

So, we’d appreciate your prayers that tomorrow’s meeting will make things clear about our eligibility to be adoptive parents, the timing, and if this is God’s will for us and for Paul.

Thanks so much,

Great meeting in the morning, so we started the proces at our regional center. Now we have a list of forms and docs to get :) thanks for thinking of us!

Hey Sokols,

I’m excited for you. And Paul. How old is he? We’ll be praying for you!

Dan

Paul is 2 years old, birthday is July 10, 2007.

i really want to put some pictures on my blog, but i’m afraid to go too public yet—it’s not a sealed deal for one thing, and I”m not sure how much I’m allowed to show that we’ve had this type of contact with him, pictures I mean.

thanks for being happy with us!

My wife and I adopted two through foster care here in the states.

It is such a joy.

I pray the Lord will richly bless you through the process and afterwards.

Jason

I suppose in this case no news is good news. At least it hasn’t been a quick rejection. Looking forward to more news on Pavlik (or is he a Pasha or Pashinka ;) )

Hoping to shed more light than heat..

as far as names, all of the above :) how do you know about all this? My first daughter is named Skyla, and ukrainians call her Skyloonya :D

we’re just plugging along getting docs that we need. I went and got a paper from the notary that i’m ok with vitaliy adopting him (it will be done on vitaliy, then on me too when i get my immigration stamp), and vitaliy needs to get a paper about no criminal record, medical clearance, etc.

the amazing thing is that adoption is free for ukrainians, so Lord willing, we’ll just be putting out a few dollars here and there to get these various papers. I’m keeping track, thinking that the whole thing will cost less than a hundred dollars. isn’t that amazing?

thanks for praying; i’m praying he’ll come right into our family like he always was here :)

As to how do I know, my wife was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Her family were EC-B exiles. The grandparents moved to Central Asia during the 30s. My b-i-l is Pavel Geogivitch. My suggestion for the daughter is use Sklichka. Though that may sound more Russian than Ukrainian.

At Himself’s young age, he’s more of a Pasha than any thing else.
