How would you teach gray issues of conscience just from the Old Testament?

I assume most SharperIron members hold to a "heart-issues" view of the conscience. That means we each need to try to discern how to act in disputable matters, but not judge or despise one another. And it means that how we each decide isn't as important as having a heart of obedience to what we believe. And that we respect one another and don't encourage one another to violate their conscience.

My questions here are:

Would any Old Testament saints have agreed with that?
