As I understand it, it’s common for Roman Catholics to posit that the NT was originally written in Aramaic. It seems to be a cornerstone of their argument for the papacy from Matthew 16. It diminishes the difference between petros and petra if they both come from the Aramaic kepha. Of course there’s no evidence of an Aramaic original of Matthew or any other NT book, but that’s never stood in their way before.
