Evangelicals React to Santorum's Decision to Suspend Presidential Bid
He got way off message with comments like this:
Plus he tried to present himself as an evangelical. Fact is http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/24/us/santorums-catholicism-draws-evange… he’s a devout Catholic (this is not an anti-Catholic comment - I could vote for a Catholic for President!)
His criticisms of Mitt did not help: http://thinkprogress.org/special/2012/04/10/461848/santorum-hits-on-rom…
I’ve been around long enough to recall that Santorium was not that conservative fiscally!
“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country…. Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that’s okay, contraception is okay. It’s not okay. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”More here: http://theweek.com/article/index/223041/9-controversial-rick-santorum-q…

One of the ironic things about this race is that the guy with the religion that is less scary (Catholicism) was actually more religiously scary than the guy who is supposed to have the scary religion (Mormonism). Though I wish Romney were not a Mormon, he seems to have a better idea of how to handle his faith rhetorically and when to avoid using religious arguments (most of the time!) to support his policies.
