Joshua Feuerstein and his Starbucks "red cup" protest
- 1 view
I watched this ridiculous video last week. I thought it was stupid, pointless, antagonistic and inane. I could string together a few more adjectives, but you get the point. Forcing a poor Starbucks barista to write “Merry Christmas” on your cup, all while you stand there with a stupid grin on your face, really accomplishes nothing. Is the Gospel presented? What does this accomplish, besides making yourself feel good? It saddens me even more to see so many people liking this stupid video on FaceBook.
If Christians are anxious to share videos, why don’t they actually share one which presents the Gospel? Most likely, because such videos are “boring.” It’s so much more entertaining to watch a fool with a backwards baseball cap bellow into a smartphone camera about what he “made” a poor Starbucks barista do, than to watch and forward a video where the Gospel is actually presented.
This man needs to go to Amazon.com and buy himself a life - he may even find one on clearance. They may even let him make a new account with the name “Merry Christmas,” as an added bonus.
Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.
My condolences, Tyler. :^)

According to Amobee’s data, 67% of the Tweets around Starbucks’ holiday cups have carried negative sentiment. However, only 17% of the negative sentiment tweets indicated frustration towards Starbucks. Most of the negative tweets expressed outrage over the backlash surrounding the cups, per Amobee’s data. There were several comments such as “I can’t roll my eyes any harder at this red cup Starbucks controversy,” according to Amobee.
If you want a coffee cup to tell people about Jesus instead of doing it yourself you’re probably not a very good evangelist.

I have seen exactly zero of my facebook friends actually be upset that Starbucks doesn’t have Merry Christmas on their cups, yet my feed is filled with people saying why Christians shouldn’t be outraged over this issue.

…that either “Evangelist” Feuerstein is in reality a secularist playing this up to make fun of Christians, or (perhaps more likely) that secularists in the media love to play this up to make us look like idiots?
OK, seriously, we all too often do it to ourselves, and it is my prayer that more of us would get a working….”nonsense” detector.
