New year, new eBook thread (even if it is a little late). If you have ideas or recommendations for free eBooks, please let me know.

From Challies.com - “On Guard: Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision(link is external)” by William Lane Craig is free today.

Discussion

There is a whole list of free Christian eBooks available at this website: http://echristianresources.com/category/pdf/(link is external). That link will get you to a listing of resources that they have, and another page (here(link is external)) will get you to the “long term ebook” (whatever that means) links. There are some big names on the list - Al Mohler, John Piper, John Walvoord, John Owen, David Powlison, etc - and the list is quite long, so it might be worth bookmarking and working through slowly.

Also, keep in mind that the free book of the month programs from Logos and ChristianAudio will be changing soon, so grab those resources before we turn the calendar page.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

The audio book “You and Me Forever” by Francis and Lisa Chan is free for download via ChristianAudio today through 2.12(link is external). While you are there, you can get a copy of “Everyone’s a Theologian” by RC Sproul as well at this link(link is external). The free Logos book of the Month is “Justification Reconsidered: Rethinking a Pauline Theme” and is available at this link(link is external).
Another resource that aggregates free resources is http://www.christianbooksfree.com/(link is external) - check that out!

Divine Design: God’s Complementary Roles for Men and Women(link is external)” by John MacArthur is free for Kindle today.

Divine Design calls us back to God’s original intent for men and women. Clearing away the cultural noise and misconceptions, author John MacArthur tackles big issues such as authority in marriage, mothers in the home, and God’s view of equality, all while exploring the innate differences between men and women. Throughout, Divine Design provides an indispensable guide for understanding your mate, and shares how embracing your unique design can foster security, blance, and love in a marriage and family.

I appreciate the links

If anyone is interested, you can sign up for Microsoft OneDrive and get up to 115 GB of free online storage for two years. Then you’ll either need to pay for it - easy enough to do if you use Bing searches that can be redeemed for credit - or cut way back.
The story and details are available at Lifehacker(link is external).

A friend of the website emailed me the other day and let me know that the old Expositor journals have now been digitized and are available in the public domain in PDF format(link is external). Some of the articles may be of help, and from what I understand, BibleWorks can detect and automatically add PDF files (like this) to their resources and thereby allow a much more robust search for content.
Drake also suggested the use of the DownThemAll plugin for Firefox(link is external) in order to download all the articles easily and quickly. That’s worth a look as well.

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted - the well for free resources has been running low lately. :(
That being said, Ligioner Ministries is giving away a free audio edition of the book “The Truth of the Cross” by RC Sproul. You can learn more about that at their website(link is external) if you are interested. I think it’s a limited time offer but am not sure.

Keep in mind that the free resources of the month have changed - ChristianAudio is giving away the book “Tortured for Christ(link is external)” and Logos is giving away “The Old Testament Library Series: Isaiah by Brevard S. Childs(link is external)”. I don’t know anything about that book, so caveat emptor.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

“Radical”, a book that made all kinds of waves a few years ago, is now available for the next 72 hours from ChristianAudio(link is external). Check that out!

The goal of this thread is to disseminate resources that are primarily aimed at helping other Christians grow or develop in their walks with God, which is why I don’t normally post books that are fiction or nonchristian. I wanted, however, to make a special exception for this series of books today.

One of my hobbies is reading about World War II, and it is hard to understate the critical role of England’s Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, in what was a very perilous and dark time. I think we could argue that while the US played the key role in supplying arms, it was Churchill’s leadership that really led the Allied Powers.

A friend let me know this morning that Hillsdale College is kicking off a celebration of his life and work by giving away his definitive, eight volume biography for free on Kindle(link is external). If you are interested, check out the link below. The volumes usually sell for $80 in total, but they are free for today and Saturday (4/11) only. I would encourage everyone to grab this set while they can.

I grabbed them earlier this morning. I wonder what they can add to William Manchester’s trilogy, which I’ve read and thought was exhaustive enough!

Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.

The “Be Hopeful: How to Make the Best of Times Out of Your Worst of Times(link is external)” commentary on 1 Peter by Warren Wiersbe is free for download via Amazon.com.

In Scripture, hope means the promise of salvation for those who have accepted God and His Son’s death and resurrection.
Christians who possess this hope and live as though then possess it will learn godly submission, holy living, and harmony with other believers. These qualities will prepare them for what Peter pains in his epistle as inevitable—suffering and persecution. Though Peter is writing to warn a people who would soon be under the tyranny of a heathen Roman emperor, some level of suffering will always be part of the believers’ journey. A time is soon coming when living the “comfortable” Christian life will be far more costly than the life willing to give up all.

Logos is giving away free copies of A.A. Hodge’s Outlines of Theology(link is external) for a little while with the promo. code HODGEFB. It’s well worth picking up!

The ESV Global Study Bible is being made available for free via Crossway(link is external); you can download it in ePub or Mobi formats, but not via the Amazon store. You can certainly download it and put it on a Kindle, though.
I’m not sure why we needed a “Global” Study Bible, but I can admit that I’ve been thrilled with my copy of the ESV Study Bible. It’s one of the first places I go to if I need quick help with a passage. In any case, free is free, and I’m sure that this will be helpful to some.

The Free books of the month are available at ChristianAudio.com (their offering is the free book titled “The Advocate(link is external)” and also Logos’ free book page (The Lord and His Prayer(link is external), by N.T. Wright). Obviously, the N.T. Wright book should be received with a careful eye, but it may profit some of our readers.

One additional free resource that might be of interest is this 44 pg volume by The Alliance Defending Freedom, titled “Protecting Your Ministry from Sexual Orientation Gender Identity Lawsuits(link is external)”. It is unfortunate that such items are necessary in these days, but the booklet contains a lot of helpful information for those of you who are leading churches and religious organizations in this dark age. I would recommend it to you all.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

“The Truth and Timing of the Rapture” by Dr. Mark Hitchcock is available for free via a Dallas Theological Seminary webpage(link is external). I don’t know what position he takes, and the site does request your email and then presents a fundraising appeal, but it may interest some here.

Another book that is free that I mentioned elsewhere is the book “HCSB: Navigating the Horizons in Bible Translations(link is external)”. The link here is for Amazon.

Finally, the book “Be Exultant (Psalms 90-150): Praising God for His Mighty Works(link is external)” by Warren Wiersbe is free for today only (I think).

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

The Pursuit of God: Updated Edition, by AW Tozer, is free for download from Amazon.com(link is external) and Barnes And Noble(link is external).

Don’t forget about the free eBooks available via ChristianAudio(link is external) and Logos(link is external) as well. Both books are very good.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Be Mature (James) by Warren Wiersbe is free for download from Amazon.com(link is external) and from Barnes and Noble(link is external).

Also, the Logos and ChristianAudio free books of the month will be ending soon - grab them if you haven’t done so yet. ChristianAudio has “Being a Dad Who Leads” and Logos is offering the “Evangelical Exegetical Commentary on Esther” (with the 1, 2, 3 John commentary available as an add-on for $0.99)

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Logos is offering “40 Questions about Christians and Biblical Law(link is external)” by Thomas Schreiner as their free book of the month; ChristianAudio has the book “FiveTwentyEight(link is external)” by Ian and Larissa Murphy of the famous Desiring God videos. Both look interesting.

Another free book is by Kevin DeYoung, titled “Taking God at His Word”. You can get it by filling out a survey from Crossway(link is external).

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Also free - and this looks REALLY good - is the book “Entrusted with the Gospel: Paul’s Theology in the Pastoral Epistles(link is external)”. You do need to sign up with B&H Academic Publishing to get it.

"Our task today is to tell people — who no longer know what sin is...no longer see themselves as sinners, and no longer have room for these categories — that Christ died for sins of which they do not think they’re guilty." - David Wells

Three free ebooks available today - both are the monthly offerings from ChristianAudio and Logos (respectively):

Wayne Grudem’s Introduction to Systematic Theology(link is external) and the companion volume Historical Theology: An Introduction to Christian Doctrine(link is external) are on sale in Kindle edition today for $7.99; the latter work is very highly recommended although I have not had the chance to look at it.

Or you can purchase both for $11.99 by going through the Zondervan Academic link(link is external). If you go through the Zondervan link, you can purchase the books through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, CBD, or iBooks.

The Doctrine of the Atonement as taught by the Apostles by George Smeaton is temporarily free for Logos if you use the promo code “SMEATONFB”.

Also - just a reminder that both Logos and ChristianAudio’s free monthly giveaways will be ending soon. The Logos book is:

ChristianAudio:

“Follow Me”(link is external) by David Platt
