My "Frankenstein" quip and how I ended up in the Star Tribune
There’s a whole lot of grace in that story. Thanks for sharing.
(and as a certain relative of mine would say “Hey, you’re a cereblity!”)
Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
I invited the Star Trib photographer to our site. I have sign in authority so I didn’t think that would be an issue.
A manager friend of mine advised me that it violated our team member handbook to have photographs taken of our workspaces.
I looked it up in the team member handbook and it is a fireable offense. So I had to scramble. I contacted my manager who is in Texas and she didn’t want to deal with granting me permission (she promised to get back to me the next day (and I still have not heard back!)). Local HR was a bit upset because I had not contacted them in advance about the interview and the pictures.
Finally corporate communications bailed me out. But they had to send a representative to oversee everything.
My desk had to be cleaned off … everything was moved off the desk except my computer, my phone, a radio, pictures of my kids, and my 20 year award. And the camera guy had to stay on the far side of my computer monitor (I found this all very silly). I tried the “I’m 65 years old and I can handle this by myself” but corporate communications had to be there nevertheless.
God bless you my brother! Good to read.
