Voice of the Martyrs' Tom White's Death an Apparent Suicide Following Molestation Investigation

Such a tragic report. VOM does a great work, and this will certainly hurt their ministry.
What was missing from the VOM release, however, was a statement of sympathy and compassion for the possible victim should these allegations be true.

Ed,
I think they are waiting for facts before making any further statement, which would be wise if it is true. They did acknowledge the presence of an investigation, so they are not sweeping it under the rug.

I agree with Ed. The fact that Tom committed suicide lends credibility to the accusation. The statement talks about remembering the accomplishments but if a little one was offended by this man, then those accomplishments are tainted and a little girl has been deeply wounded.
There is weakness in ministries expressing sympathy for victims of abuse. I know there are so many legal ramifications but a ministry must reflect the heart of Jesus which is that it is better that millstone were hung around your neck and you were drowned in the bottom of the sea than to offend one of these little ones (Luke 17:2).

When I read of these tragedies and sins, the Lord draws my mind to David. Here he was, a man after God’s own heart. He lusted, committed adultery and murder, and tried to hide his sin. If he could fall, I am certainly susceptible also. “Considering yourself, lest you also be tempted” “Let him who stands take heed lest he fall”
Then, we read Psalms 32 and 51, and find the heartcry for forgiveness. We worship a God Who is gracious and forgiving, and David sought and found God’s forgiveness for this sin. However, we cannot ignore the fact that he experienced consequences of that sin for the rest of his life.
We need the sustaining grace and guidance of the Lord every moment of our earthly journey. His Word is truly the lamp to our feet, guiding our daily steps, as well as a light to our path, showing us the long look.
God has given us everything for life and godliness : He tells us about eternal lfie, and His Word gives us guidance for godliness in our earthly walk before we enter eternity.
We should be reminded by this account of the need for extreme diligence to be sure our ministries are safe places for children and give public honor to our risen Savior.

A few years ago I heard a speaker at a men’s conference say, “Most of the serious moral failures in Scripture occured during the second half of men’s lives.” That’s a pretty good reminder…for all of us.

I’m 41, and I know how hard the first half (presumably) of my life already was.
