Merry Christmas from Tom Mount
Merry Christmas to all my brothers and sisters in Christ here at SharperIron!
You’re probably looking at the name and thinking, “Huh? Who is this guy?” Some of you probably went back and searched through the site trying to find my last article. I’ll save the rest of you the trouble—you won’t find any articles with my name in the byline. You won’t see me making any dazzling written displays of theological prowess or concluding 10-page-long threads in the forums with the wisdom of age and experience at my side. In fact, I doubt you’ll find much about me at all on this site, so please allow me to introduce myself. My name’s Tom Mount, and I’m one of the copy editors here at SI. I take raw articles or e-mails, clean up the formatting, add footnotes and hyperlinks, and save the article for publication on this site. Most of my work is putting in Dr. Bauder’s In the Nick of Time articles, but I also step up when another editor is on vacation or the workload is heavy enough. Finally, I do a little lurking around the forums, making the occasional “prairie dog” post—I go by “mounty” there.
Even though I still call Pennsylvania home, I’ve lived in Greenville, South Carolina, for the last seven years. I graduated from Bob Jones University in 2005 with a B.A. in Youth Ministries, followed by a master’s degree in Church Music from BJU this past May. (Woo hoo!) Since January of 2005, I’ve spent a lot of weekends on the road with the Calvary Quartet, based out of my home church, Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC. When I’m not with the Quartet, you can find me either at work at BJU, where I manage the IT Connection, a computer repair shop focused on personal computers owned by the students, faculty, and staff of the university; or singing with the Greenville Chorale, a civic chorus based here in Greenville. I’ve enjoyed the ministry of music that God has given to me, and I’ve enjoyed being in a supportive role wherever I minister, whether as someone who prepares a church to hear the preaching of God’s Word, as someone who fixes computers so students and teachers can best prepare themselves for what God’s called them to do, or as someone who quietly fiddles with an e-mail so that folks online can be blessed by the wealth of knowledge of those God has chosen to use as proclaimers of truth in the online community.
So it’s okay that you’ve probably never heard of me. And after you finish reading this, I’ll go back to uploading articles and prepping them for publication, and you probably won’t see anything about me again until next Christmas. But that’s fine, because I know God’s given me the backstage ministry I have here, and I’m happy to do what I can to help out the ministry of SharperIron.
Now that you maybe know me a little better, let me say it again—Merry Christmas, and happy New Year! May God continue to bless, guide, and direct us all as we seek to further our understanding of His Word in the coming year through our interactions on this site.
