Merry Christmas from the Lee Brock Family

Hello Friends,

BrocksWe are finishing up our first full year in Alamogordo, New Mexico. When the Lord led us here, we had no idea what He was doing, but we knew enough about Him to be excited about what was coming. For several months, we visited many churches. Discouraged, we had just about decided to join the least problematic church when a little boy walked into Lee’s clinic, singing a happy Sunday school song. When Lee asked the mother what church she attended, she told of a church in the tiny town next to ours that talked about the Bible all the time. We visited and found our church home. Lee has especially appreciated both a pastor with a desire for humility and a group of men with an earnest desire to lead their families and challenge each other to be transparent and grow spiritually. It’s been fun serving together at this church.

Lee is the only Air Force pediatrician in a busy clinic in a small town. Some people ask whether the children are frightened of seeing a doctor in camouflage, but they forget that the doctor in camouflage looks just like their daddies. (It’s not uncommon for our children to run happily toward a man in uniform, only to stop short and say, “That’s not my daddy!”) Lee loves his work. He finds that his practice is a good blend of problem-solving medicine and parental counseling. Many in the military come from a Christian worldview and welcome his perspective as a Christian pediatrician.

I’ve enjoyed my multifaceted career as a wife and mom and particularly love the challenge and flexibility of staying at home. I lead a Bible study for some of our Air Force wives and have found that these intelligent women are often teaching me. I ventured out of my comfort zone this year to teach infant and toddler music classes, and I’ve been enjoying the experience. Both of these projects have been helpful in keeping my children’s minds and bodies busy as well as my own. I’ve also enjoyed the challenge of keeping my mind sharp by writing regularly on my blog.

BrocksDavid turned four in June. He loves rockets, airplanes, precision, and routine. Everything relates to airplanes: a bad odor smells like rocket fuel, a Christmas tree design in lights on the side of a hill looks like an airplane fin, crayons are for drawing F-22s and Nighthawks, and so on.

Bethel turns three on Christmas day. Precision and routine are low on her priority list. She is fearless and tenacious, and loves challenging her big brother even as she tries to follow him. At every opportunity, she chooses pink clothes, pink books at the library, and pink food.

Laurel just turned one. She is far more laid-back than Bethel, just as happy, and just as eager to be like her big brother. She’s a typical one-year-old: inquisitive, learning to talk, and learning to obey. She enjoys books, loves her daddy, and loves reorganizing the Tupperware cupboard in the kitchen.

We’re looking forward to the next year, eager to see where God will send us next!

We hope you have a Christmas characterized by peace, unselfish love, and thankfulness for the greatest gift ever given, our Savior Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!

Lee, Michelle, David, Bethel, and Laurel
