“The authors of Theology Matters: Comparing the Traits of Growing and Declining Mainline Protestant Church Attendees and Clergy surveyed 2,225 churchgoers in Ontario, Canada, and conducted interviews with 29 clergy and 195 congregants. The paper is to be published in next month’s issue of the respected international journal, Review of Religious Research.” The Guardian

….first of all that there are significant numbers of mainline churches which believe in evangelism, daily Bible reading, and the like. Also of note is that modern music styles are linked with growing churches—helps them to select for a younger member base. It’s worth noting that the bar is set actually slightly below the theological fundamentals, apparently—we are not talking a super-rigorous list of things to do and not to do.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
