Haven’t read Bloesch. Saw some of his books once at Powell’s Books, in downtown Portland. My take was that he was a moderate evangelical. Maybe I’ll read something, one day. In a similar vein, I found a copy of Stanley Granz’s short, “what is Christianity all about” book at Goodwill a few weeks ago. It looks pretty good.
Tyler is a pastor in Olympia, WA and works in State government.
Bloesch was an adherent of the theology of P. T. Forsyth. As such he is at turns stimulating and annoying. His book Faith and Its Counterfeits is good. His 2 volume Essentials of Evangelical Theology is worth having, although he is left of center. I have his 7 volume systematics, which again is a mixed bag.
If you like theology with a “catholic” spirit, and look past his denial of propositional revelation (and misconstrual of Carl Henry) Bloesch is worth some time.
