BJU: NASCAR Sponsorship to Drive Up Enrollment

….especially in light of the fact that the origins of NASCAR were the vehicles of bootleggers. Gotta outrun the revenuers, donchaknow?

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

You guys realize this is a joke, right?

Here is a picture of the car before the photo was edited:

Type in Jordan Anderson, and then choose racing driver.

Not a joke: From the www.bjubruins.com

“Auto Racing Outreach unveiled their newest show truck on the campus of Bob Jones University. The truck was decorated in Bruins colors and decals promoting the University.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with Auto Racing Outreach,” Bruins’ athletics director Neal Ring said. “This ministry embodies what we are trying to do in using sports to connect with our community and point them to Christ.”

I saw the babylon bee tag, indicating it is satire. That’s the problem with society today, there is often little difference between reality, satire and parody.

Ok, read the account…this is a “show car” meaning it is not outfitted for actual racing. It is a prop. So you will not see the actual driver, Jordan Anderson, racing competitors in the BJU decals. This show car is only used for community events, etc.

So this isn’t technically a ‘NASCAR sponsorship’ as BJU isn’t putting out money to keep the driver in the car and on the track.

As the story in the link is written, this is satire after all. They wrote it leaving the impression that BJU was now a driver sponsor in NASCAR which is not true.

As noted above, read the www.bjubruins.com website. The car is real, the BJU Bruin on the hood is real. Every Nascar team has show cars that travel around. You don’t think the car you saw at Lowes last week was just stopping off on the way to Daytona, do you?

You will not see the driver, Jordan Anderson, driving the car with BJU decals on the track. BJU is not sponsoring this driver. This show car is for the purpose of an org called “Auto Racing Outreach.”

Here is how the article says it works: “Berkey and his team will arrive at an [NASCAR] event two or three days before the race and minister to those who camp out around the stadium before the race. Greg preaches the Gospel, hands out packets of information, has children’s games and activities and even allows people to see and sit in his professional stock [show] car.”

Further info: “Through the generous support of Auto Racing Outreach donors, the show truck has been freshly wrapped with Bruins graphics and colors. The show truck will be used as an outlet to share the Gospel at NASCAR and other events beginning this fall.”

This has absolutely nothing to do with sponsoring driver Jordan Anderson. NASCAR sponsors are financial partners who pay actual race car owners big money to have their decals applied to the cars that race before fans and television viewers.

The money pays for race team expenses, and the sponsor gets the benefit of increased business due to exposure of their product. Probably the best ever value a sponsor got was several years ago when Fluidmaster (a plumbing products company) chose to put up primary sponsorship money for just one race, and the car won the race, maximizing the exposure of their company name.

But BJU has not sponsored a NASCAR team and you will not see the vehicle in a race with the BJU logo.

Looking up Mr. Anderson via Google, it appears that he used to race for Liberty U. Hopefully he continues to repent of his SBC apostasy for that sponsorship fee!
