SharperIron

Christmas Greetings from the Mike Osborne Family

Dear SharperIron Friends,
Osbornes in Concord.JPGThe anticipated birth of our first child got top billing last year, and now we are praising God for making that anticipation a reality. Felicity Jane Osborne was born June 14, 2006, and life has not been the same since. As the manna that came down daily in the wilderness, so is God’s grace to us at each new stage of life: it arrives when needed, and not before or after. Not that Felicity is a particularly trying child—far from it—she’s quite sociable more often than not. But she adds a lot of work and subtracts a quantity of sleep and with her mere presence tells us without words: “You are responsible.” By the grace of God, OK. We’ll do it. And it is indescribable joy. John Piper would remind us, and biblically, too, that the joy set before us is a good motivation for doing a good thing. The flash of a smile when Mike arrives home from work or the drifting off to sleep in Becky’s arms is joy.

Felicity’s was not the only birth this year: several second cousins were born, too. Brenden (June 12); Derek (August 7); Jorja (September 13); Emma (adopted December 12); and one on the way next spring. Our extended family is amply supporting the photography industry. At church, others are expecting. Now we are sufficiently conversant in the baby culture.

A Note from Greg Linscott

Late on the evening of December 7, I sent out the following message to the SI administrators and moderators:

All,

I have been re-assessing my priorities of late. As I have examined the amount of effort I place on SharperIron versus its general effectiveness, usefulness, and personal fulfillment, it seems my efforts would be better spent in other endeavors. I intend to conclude my responsibilities as Forum Director and Filings contributor effective December 22, 2006. I have enjoyed working with you all on the site.

In Christ,

Greg Linscott

To the SI membership I say: I have enjoyed this experience a great deal. It’s been pleasant getting to know many of you and even meet some of you face to face. I’ve appreciated the moments of camaraderie, and learned lessons from the passionate exchanges.

To Jason I say: thanks for taking a chance with a guy you’d never met. It is a mark of the age that we live in that we worked together for well over a year before we ever saw one another. I appreciate your friendship and have learned much from our partnership.

My membership account in the forums at SI will continue to be active, though I will not be contributing in any regular administrative or authorial capacity. My wife Jennifer, however, plans to continue to serve as moderator in the Ladies’ Forum. I plan to be active online in some new projects, which you can read about in the near future by following my personal blog at http://greglinscott.wordpress.com.

"I believe in the Bible — and it’s a way I can share that."

From the Lawrence Journal-World profile of composer Dan Forrest
(better known to SI members as Addy Forrest’s husband ;) )

"A haughty smirkness characterized many of the responses."

David Cloud made this observation this week in his article “CALVINISM ON THE MARCH”:
“When someone put the original edition of my article on the growth of Calvinism (from our Friday Church News Notes) on the Shaperiron.org [sic] web site as a blog, there were 16 pages of responses and most of the replies were either in favor of or sympathetic toward Calvinism or were neutral. Many of them ridiculed me in a fashion that I have found to be typical among “young” Calvinists. A haughty smirkness characterized many of the responses.
