Came across this from the MacArthur Study Bible….

The reference is to those Hebrews who had made a profession of Christ, but had not gone all the way to full faith. They had not yet begun the race, which starts with salvation. The writer has invited them to accept salvation in Christ and join the race.

On day 6 of creation as recorded in Genesis 1 it presents both male and female being created:

26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

I was asked recently by some Jewish friends of mine why Jesus misquotes the OT in the Gospels. One example they provide is Luke 4:18.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives

and recovering of sight to the blind,

to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

and they compare that to Isaiah 61

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,

because the Lord has anointed me
