This satire of "what you don't want in a youth pastor" is not as far from reality -- in some instances -- than what we would like to think. Fortunately, there are some solid guys out there, too.

If I had a nickel for every time a youth leader used a movie that my dh and I would not allow our kids to watch as a spiritual illustration... once it was a scene from the new King Kong, where this guy gets eaten by these worms with big mouths and teeth, and it was supposed to be an illustration of what sin does if you get too close. Spare me the insipid use of pop culture to 'relate' to youth. Most young people are not that stupid nor that shallow, and a few of the kids that saw the aforementioned illustration thought the YL had lost his marbles. Although some of the kids were thrilled that study time was wasted on watching a flick.

I would also note the major shift when it comes to popular movies. We've gone from "it's wrong for Christians to attend the movie theater" to "if you want to be effective for Christ, you had better keep up on every new movie." Whatever happened to being selective and living your own life instead of vicariously through movies, videos, and TV shows?
