Is it possible to get full text feeds so we can read an entire post in a news aggregator?

The new SharperIron is already much easier to follow in a news aggregator than the previous version. Those "split posts" (one for the article and one for the comments) were frustrating and not too efficient.

Thanks for all the work!

Jon, I'm not sure if that's

Jon,
I'm not sure if that's possible and/or a good idea or not. Off hand, don't know why not, but RSS might as well mean "Really Strange Stuff" as far as my knowledge of it goes. Laughing out loud
But I think I know who to ask so I'll ask.

Here's the path to set full text feeds

Admin > Administer > Content management > RSS publishing
Feed Content > Full text

Thanks for looking into this.

Advertising

The only downside (from SI's standpoint) would that the actual site wouldn't get traffic and the advertisers wouldn't get exposure. However, placing the adds in the posts themselves is possible. (I've seen it done on several other blogs)

I'm for the ability to view full text in an aggregator.

Should be possible

Yep. Easy as that. It'll be a while before we get to it though because we'll want to put some ads in the feeds. (This is also doable but a bit tricker than turning "full text" on in RSS admin.) Gotta pay the bills. Puzzled

News Aggregator Users

Just out of curiosity, do you know what percentage of SI members subscribe to SI via RSS and a news aggregator?

Nope. Not a clue. Would be interesting to know.

FeedBurner

Take a look at FeedBurner (now part of Google)

www.feedburner.com
"You may also use AdSense for feeds to earn revenue from content you distribute in your feed."

Adsense

I've taken several long hard looks at adsense. The potential gotcha is that it's all keyword driven and there's no telling what sort of ads might show up... if we have an article on drinking, for example, we could end up displaying ads for Bud Light or ol' Jack Daniels or something.
And if we do a piece on homosexuality, do we end up w/ads for somebody's LGBT club?
So... makes me a little queezy. Sick

Update?

Any update on getting the full content in RSS feeds?

Here's a discussion on full content RSS feeds (with ads).

Interesting

Thanks for the link. I would like to know how he serves up ads via RSS that are, in his words, neither cheap nor lousy.
I'd also like to know how he knows how many people subscribe to his RSS feed.
I'm still too new to it to know how that's done. But I'll ask around.
