Chaplain (CPT) Dale A. Goetz, USA

Dale graduated from Central Seminary with his M.Div. degree in May of 2000. He had already served his country in the United States Air Force. After graduation, he pastored a church in White, South Dakota until the Lord led him into military chaplaincy. Dale was commissioned as a chaplain in January of 2004.

I will forward a photograph to SharperIron.

Our prayers are with Dale's wife and two boys.

Yes, Dale is a '95 graduate of Maranatha and a 2000 graduate of Central Baptist Seminary.

On behalf of Dale's wife Christy, his sons Landon, Caleb, and Joel, and the whole church family at High Country Baptist Church, we would request your prayers for the family. Dale and Christy had just joined our church. We officially voted them into membership on Sunday. Mere hours later, on Monday morning (Afghanistan time), Dale was killed along with three other men when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb. The Army notified Christy yesterday afternoon.

Christy has expressed her deep desire for the Lord to be glorified through Dale's death. Dale was passionate about seeing soldiers come to Christ. His expressed prayer for this deployment was that 300 of his soldiers would trust in Christ. The Lord had already used Dale in the short four weeks of his deployment to point many to Christ. Christy is rejoicing in how the Lord has used Dale, but of course the pain is very deep right now. Thank you for your prayers.

Dale was a MBBC grad

Dale was a student at Maranatha during the time I served in the Administration at the college. I was in the Welcome Center on a cold day in January when Christy first came as a student. She was a very fine young lady and student. Dale served as a youth pastor for a period in a Twin Cities church and used materials from Positive Action For Christ, the ministry in which I now serve. I remember communicating with Dale during that time and sensing his burden for ministry. May the Lord sustain Christy and family and give them the power of His grace at this time of loss.

Army Central Chaplains are praying / grieving

As a currently deployed, active duty Army Chaplain, I want you to know Chaplain Goetz's death brought many of us to our knees here at Camp Arifjan. While I never met CH Goetz, I knew of his tremendous ministry and his ACCC endorser. All the Chaplains in Kuwait representing the Army, Navy and Air Force conducted training this morning. We prayed for the Goetz family and home church.

Knew Dale and Christy at MBBC

God allowed me to be a student at the same time that Dale and Christy were attending. We got to know each other and he became almost like an older brother. He was always willing to offer a listening ear and give sound spiritual advice. God obviously had special plans for him.

Hearing of his death brought the war a bit closer to home. He clearly made just as big an impact in others lives as much as he did mine. His death was not in vain,as I know there will be many soldiers who will come up to him in Heaven and greet him as a brother. I know I'm looking forward to that moment.

My prayers go out to Christy and the rest of his family at this difficult time. He was a true American hero as well as a soldier of the Lord.

I went to school at MBBC with Dale Goetz and consulted him about the Army chaplaincy before becoming a chaplain myself. He has paid the ultimate price for causes larger than himself, especially the cause of Christ. I honor him, and lift my prayers to the God of all comfort for his dear family.

Chaplain Corps that Chaplain (CPT) Dale A. Goetz was killed in action in

Friends say the Baptist minister was an Air Force veteran who joined the Army’s chaplaincy because he desired to help others.

“He was definitely a fun-loving man, an energetic kind of fellow,” said the Rev. Jason Parker, Goetz’s pastor at High Country Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.

Parker said Goetz had joined his church the day before he left for Afghanistan.

“His goal as a chaplain was not to be a social worker, but to be a spiritual guide,” Parker said.

Goetz had served in Iraq. The married father of three feared fighting in Afghanistan, but had high goals for his year at war, said the Rev. Stuart Schwenke, an Iowa pastor who went through ministerial training with Goetz.

He worked through the summer teaching soldiers how to strengthen their marriages and to prepare their families for the long separation.

In Afghanistan, Goetz wanted to bring 300 soldiers to know Jesus and had told friends that three GIs had accepted Christ in his first month overseas.

Friends said they knew Goetz would see combat alongside the soldiers who made up his flock.

Goetz had a calm demeanor that helped soldiers find strength in the darkest of times, Schwenke said.

“He brought peace in the midst of turmoil,” Schwenke said.

Goetz had earned the Meritorious Service Medal and was a three-tiome recipient of the Army Commendation Medal.

Funeral

Regarding the previous post, there has been a change in the date and place of the funeral.

The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m., most likely at Prussman Chapel at Fort Carson.

We hope the changes do not present hardships for anyone. Feel free to contact High Country Baptist Church at (719) 473-2446 if you need more information. We will try to give a definite confirmation of the location of the funeral as soon as we are able.
