I was surprised (pleasantly) that even the other 700 Club presenter showed her discomfort with his comments. Definately not pleased that they still haven't pulled his mic for good. And it would be really good if it were really for good.

Too bad it was on TV.
The context of the quote (on TV) was the main problem with it. Had it been delivered at a "Sword of the Lord" conference or a fundamental Bible Conference, the quote (especially with the joke) would have very likely received hearty "Amen's" and laughter.
I don't think we should be too hard on the elderly gentleman for saying what he did. The deeper issue is his tendency to downplay the "for better or for worse" part of the marriage vows (e.g., his comments concerning divorce and Alzheimer's Disease) and unconditional love.
