Hillary Wants to Preach

“Scattered bits of reporting suggest that ministry has always been a secret dream of the two-time presidential candidate…Now, as Clinton works to rehabilitate her public image and figure out the next steps after her brutal November loss, religion is taking a central role.” The Atlantic

….maybe she could start by going to the FBI and telling exactly what she was doing with Whitewater, the White House travel office, the bimbo eruptions team, her email server, her family foundation, and the like.

OK, granted, she’s wanting to be in the United Methodist Church, where Wesley’s doctrines of repentance have been mostly ignored for over a century, but still….this just boggles the mind.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

It makes some sense in light of what the mainline protestant denominations became during the 20th century: basically an arm of political progressivism/liberalism. After they walked away from inerrancy and authority of Scripture, they devoted themselves completely to social causes, “social justice,” relief efforts (“missions”), and generally righting the perceived wrongs of society…. making the world a better place (“better” seen through a particular, not very biblical, lens…. though nobody’s in favor of starvation, disease, and the ravages of pointless wars).

So if you’re a politician and your “faith” is “make the world a better place through social reform,” you’re already a preacher.
