Family Research Council survey: 1 in 6 churchgoers have had, paid for or encouraged an abortion

“Based on 1,009 interviews of American adults who attend church services at least once a month, the study was conducted in June 2023 by Center for Biblical Worldview and prominent Evangelical pollster George Barna.” - CPost

Discussion

The survey report refers often to “SAGE-Cons.”

Apparently, this is FRC’s handle for “spiritually active governance engaged conservative.”

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.

No mention if the abortion was for the life of the mother.

No mention if the abortion was before the person was saved.

I think those are important facts to note before running with the headline.

If indeed the rate is one in six "fundagelicals" have had, paid for, or encouraged an abortion, that is far less than the rate of abortion overall, which has (thankfully) declined from about one abortion per two women coming of childbearing age in the 1970s and 1980s to about one abortion per three women coming of childbearing age today. So we would expect something like 1:3 to 1:2 instead of 1:6, even beyond the realities Tom mentions.

(regarding those realities, "life of the mother" is about a 1% effect, almost small enough to safely neglect, but it does happen)

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.
