Found this to be a great listen and view, and enlightening. Thanks for the link

Trueman is unarguably brilliant and a great communicator, and I love his stuff on the Reformation.

However, a side note: If you look at his credentials, he is really not trained as an evangelical theologian. I would refer to him as a historian. Yet, somehow we place our trust in men like this to teach us and write to us about theology. This is actually a very common thing among many of our most illustrious authors, etc., especially those from outside the U.S.

I read an interesting article once that made the case that a man with an M.Div. and D.Min. may well have more Biblical and theological training than many with a Ph.D. ... or even just more training, period.

Food for thought.

I have heard Trueman himself say in several places that he is a historian and should not be confused with a theologian. That being said, I would guess he is as knowledgeable about theology as most guys with an Mdiv or even Dmin.

I’m very concerned about the Reformed scholasticism that Credo Mag, Barrett, Craig Carter (et al) are championing. I fear this is a “cage stage” fixation that will burn itself out and hurt many good men and women.

Thomas Aquinas is good to consult, but he is not a trustworthy theological guide for Gospel faith and practice.
