Matt Morrell—The SharperIron Interview

Matt MorrellRecently I sat down with Pastor Matt Morrell to discuss the challenges of being a young pastor, life in a pastor’s family, the state of Fundamentalism, the role of the Internet and blogs, and other topics. Matt is the new pastor of the historic Fourth Baptist Church of Plymouth, Minnesota. He succeeds Richard V. Clearwaters, Dr. Ernest Pickering, and Dr. Doug McLachlan in that role.

An Interview with the Editors of A Reader's Hebrew Bible | Part 2

Last time, we heard from Dr. A. Philip Brown, editor of A Reader’s Hebrew Bible (Zondervan, 2008). Now we hear from Dr. Bryan W. Smith, a close friend and collaborator with Phil Brown on this project.

As I mentioned last time, I had the privilege of studying biblical Greek under both of these men. While in Greenville, I was able to keep in touch with Bryan and occasionally run him down for a bit of help with my Greek. One of the things he encouraged me and the rest of my classmates to do was to keep up with our language skills by frequently reading and using our Greek New Testaments. This was laborious work for those of us who struggled with the grammar and still had a long way to go memorizing the vocab. I’ve not been as consistent as I should have been, but I have tried to keep up with it.

Since then Zondervan has published two Reader’s Greek New Testaments; and just last year, Hendrickson published The UBS Greek New Testament: Reader’s Edition (see here for a comparison of the three). Now Zondervan has published A Reader’s Hebrew Bible (RHB), so I have no excuse for not keeping up with and/or improving my knowledge of the biblical languages.

An Interview with the Editors of A Reader's Hebrew Bible | Part 1

In March of 2008, Zondervan released its publication of A Reader’s Hebrew Bible. This book has been in the works for a number of years and is patterned after Zondervan’s A Reader’s Greek New Testament (now in its second edition). The editors of this biblical languages tool are Dr. A. Philip Brown (Ph.D., Bob Jones University) and Dr. Bryan W. Smith (Ph.D., Bob Jones University).

I consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to study the biblical Greek under the instruction of both of these men. I am now benefiting from their labors in the Hebrew language.

Prior to the release of this biblical languages tool, I contacted both Phil Brown and Bryan Smith to congratulate them on the completion of this project. I also sent a series of questions, asking them to describe this project to me. They both responded to my questions and gave me permission to share them with you. I would like to present their responses in two parts. Part 1 is the Q&A with Phil Brown. Part 2 will be the Q&A with Bryan Smith.

Robert Delnay—The SharperIron Interview | Part 3—Keswick View of Sanctification

delnay.jpgI had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Robert Delnay for SI. Dr. Delnay has taught at many fundamental colleges and seminaries during his life. He currently teaches at Clearwater Christian College. I did three interviews with him—the first two about his life and work and about the Northern Baptist Convention.

In this third interview, I asked him about the Keswick view of sanctification.
