….the note that preaching with power is not about emotional manipulation and the like. When you write of the spectrum between emotional manipulation and purely intellectual teaching, what comes to mind, especially regarding “intellectual teaching”, is that preaching is akin, to a degree, to pleading with children to heed the logical conclusions of what they’re learning.

….that comes to mind regarding this is that when I watch “my tribe” look at the Scriptures, sometimes we don’t seem to clue in to the notion that it’s possible we ought to see ourselves in the “bad” examples like the Pharisees, those who “have a form of Godliness but deny its power”, and the like. Sometimes we don’t do well enough saying “now insert yourself into this passage in various roles and ask yourself whether this fits.”.
