To be honest, I expected the progressives to win and force the evangelicals and conservatives out. The reason is that attendance and contributions are heavily weighted on that side, and progressives are at the very least smart enough to see where their bread is buttered. I believe I was wrong in this, and this could be really good news for the UMC—it is at least incrementally a move to purify the UMC from those who clearly do not believe.

Time will tell, but wow.
