….in that the priest sees impairment, or being blinded to sin, as the first step in this progression. The interesting thing is that very often, people will be very open about their sin and how it is sin—sometimes including things they feel guilty about but may not actually be sin in themselves. Perhaps the original Latin of Alphonsus Liguori has some hints here—but alas, I neither have his writing nor the Latin skill to decipher it. Yet.
