“A family homeschooling safely in rural Tennessee may be forced to return to their native Germany, where the parents likely face huge fines and criminal penalties, and could lose custody of their five school-age children.” Christian homeschoolers losing deportation fight
Family "guilty" of homeschooling may have to return to Germany, pay fines, lose children
The Iowa State House passed a new education bill that removes all restrictions and government involvement in homeschooling (even the driver's ed classes)! Many state mandates on Christian/Private schools will also be dropped. It is not a certainty that the house (or even Republican Governor) will pass the bill, but it is a good start. I had to have a certified psychologist-teacher come and check on me twice a year when I was homeschooling myself. My niece is in a Christian school and her folks can't afford the government fee for drivers ed (after paying tuition at the Christian school)! Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. Excepting a few towns (Pella is one), the public schools are union run. As a holder of a BA in English, I would need to spend another $15k in psychology type classes (without obtaining a higher degree) just to teach in these schools. It is really a mess!
Anyway, all that to say this story made me mad! I'm surprised more Christians aren't talking about this. Our U.S.A.G., Eric Holder, says educating your children is NOT a parental right! (But it is the government's right to give automatic weapons to Mexican drug lords to murder US military personnel?)
There's so much wrong here!
