How can a resigning pastor retain control on the way out so that the church accepts his appointment of his son as the next pastor? Do they not have elders or deacons?

Quite the mess, and the only thing I can say to those involved is take your evidence to a good lawyer and see what he says. I would not be surprised if he read for about ten minutes and then said something to the effect of “Friend, unless you take a copy of this to the DA, I can’t work with you in good conscience.”
