Was Fox News firing Bill O'Reilly A Sign That They Are Abandoning Conservatives, including Traditional Values Christians?

Forum category

A lot of Christians look to Fox News for a more conservative, more Christian-values-friendly news network. This is for better or worse, depending upon your viewpoint.

The network is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Some suggest that Rupert Murdoch’s daughters-in-law are pushing his sons (and future heirs) toward the political left.

Others argue that this may or may not be true, but that O’Reilly was fired because of his conservative views. From an evangelical position, however, O’Reilly was not always traditional values (e.g., he does not condemn homosexuality). Still, he was largely conservative. Such people postulate that Hannity will be next.

Still others have examined the bios of the women who complained O’Reilly had sexually harassed them and since they seem to be responsible people (and there are at least 6),they conclude it is likely that O’Reilly was fired because of ethical (or legal) violations.

Sponsors withdrew their advertising dollars because of these allegations. so a financial concern could be at heart, as well as network credibility.

What is your view as to what is happening? Also feel free to comment about the connection between Fox News and the fundamentalist/conservative evangelical community. There is a lot of room for discussion, is there not?

Discussion

Moving from O’Reilly to Tucker Carlson in the same time-slot hardly indicates a move to the left.

It is my understanding that, off camera, O’Reilly was arrogant to and bullied his staff. That stuff can come back to bite you. When one’s staff are treated poorly, one should not expect their support in a crisis. In fact, that staff will usually be more than willing to help them to the exit.

To your last comment, just Google the following search parameters: “O’Reilly we’ll do it live,” and watch the video. Beware of the colorful adjectives …

When your employer is out over ten million bucks because of stupid, sinful stuff you’ve done over the past decade, odds are you need to polish your resume. And, ahem, your behavior. One can quibble over whether his behavior is actionable legally or not, but not whether it was a total pain to his employer.

Aspiring to be a stick in the mud.

Fox is not and never was conservative.

And O’Reilly … an example of the kind “conservative” we all need less of.

Views expressed are always my own and not my employer's, my church's, my family's, my neighbors', or my pets'. The house plants have authorized me to speak for them, however, and they always agree with me.
