If God Is Both All-Good And All-Powerful, Why Did He Allow The Star Wars Prequels?

….but having seen a bit of one of them, and having watched Anakin’s interaction with one of the creepy-crawlies before the turbine car race, it does stand to reason that God’s Not Dead 2 and the like are not the only atrocities of movie-making these days. I’m no great actor or movie critic, but the dialogue was as wooden as that between the Lone Ranger and Tonto.

“It’s no use, Anakin! I have the high ground!”

Anakin - just before Obi-Wan destroys him: “You underestimate my power!”

Obi-Wan, as he watches Anakin being burned alive by lava: “You were my brother, Anakin!”

If the dialogue in a given movie makes Arnold Schwartenegger’s delivery in one of his action movies seem artful, it’s wooden. Hasta la vista, baby.

(Tyler, my condolences on what you’ve suffered….)

Behold this love dialogue between Anakin and Padme, worthy of a Jane Austen novel:

Anakin: If you are suffering as much as I am, please tell me.

Padme: I can’t… We can’t… It’s not possible.

Anakin: Anything is possible, Padme, listen to me.

Padme: No you listen! We live in a real world, come back to it. You’re studying to become a Jedi, I’m… I’m a senator. If you follow your thoughts through to conclusion, it will take us to a place we cannot go, regardless of the way we feel about each other.

Anakin: Then you do feel something!

Padme: I will not let you give up your future for me.

Anakin: You’re asking me to be rational. That is something that I know I cannot do. Believe me, I wish I could just wish away my feelings, but I can’t.

You can just feel the electricity in the air. If only Rick and Ilsa had spoken dialogue like that in Casablanca …

….getting a screenwriter who can do both action movie and romance is tough, and not everybody gets it well.

Another defense of the prequels; they at least did not earn a Razzie for Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Combo, as did 50 Shades of Gray. Nor did they earn “worst Actress of the Century”, as did Madonna. The first two did, however, earn Razzie nominations for Worst Picture, and #1 did earn 7 Razzie nominations in a variety of areas. So it is a worthy (worthless?) competitor in this regard.

The absolute best lightsaber battle from all the Star Wars movies was in Phantom Menace. That said, the dialogue between Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman in the next two movies was painfully bad, and that’s being generous.

Dave Barnhart

Yes, that was the best lightsaber scene ever. There was no dialogue … :)

…..since the only alternative would be Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs.

Come to think of it, though I left that movie feeling rather dirty, there at least was dialogue in that battle. Dialogue I won’t repeat, or explain to those who didn’t get the joke, but dialogue nonetheless. #annalsofmisspentyouth

I don’t know about that - the Obi-Wan / Anakin fight in Sith was pretty great. As was the Yoda-Sidious fight as well.
